NZer's Clarke Johnstone, Blair Richardson and Jenna Mahoney had a successful week in Adelaide with their relatively inexperienced horses who had never completed a 4* event . They were up against some of the best horse and rider combinations in the world, including 2 successful Olympic combinations and they managed to place in the top 10 at a very challenging Adelaide CCI****.
“They are absolutely thrilled, and we are really excited about the future of eventing with horses and riders like these,” said Erik Duvander, Eventing Team Coach.
Clarke riding Orient Express moved from 9th to 6th after a stylish SJ ing round .
Jenna Mahoney and Santos finished 8th and Blair Richardson with Spend Up ( they are based in Australia ) 9th.
Sadly, Heelan Tompkins and her Olympic mount Sugoi was not quite right in the dressage and Clarke and his wonderful campainger, Oakley Vision had a problem at an earlier fence in the xc , which was subsequently removed after causing alot of trouble.
It was reported temperatures were in the high 30 degrees, making the event very testing in such heat. The xc course was shortened to try and accomodate the extreme weather conditions.
Half the feild were eliminated or retired in the xc.

Every year on the first Tuesday of November , one of the worlds biggest and most famous races is held, the Melbourne Cup in Australia. Cambridge ( NZ ) being home of many of the past winners of the great race, loves to get in the spirit and this year a big "occasion" was organised and many people involved in the horsey scene ( eventing , SJing, racing , polo .....) were out and about that afternoon and playing long into the night. Picture attached speaks for itself, one of the main organisers Elizabeth Charleston and SJ rider Lucy Olphert could not resist having a ride on the landmark bronze statue in the Cambridge town square. Say no more............!!!
The 6 horses we sold in October through Jason Lu , our agent in Taiwan are settled in quarantine.
